Truck Accident Closes Bavaria's B12 Near Wildpoldsried
On Tuesday, 21 July, a 56‑year‑old driver of an autotransporter carrying four cars lost control of his vehicle near the Wildpoldsried interchange on the B12 road in Bavaria. The truck veered off the carriageway and fell down an embankment, blocking the highway.
The incident prompted a complete closure of the B12 between Kempten and Wildpoldsried for about ten hours. Police, fire and medical services deployed roughly 80 personnel, set up detours and began recovery operations. The driver escaped with minor injuries and was taken to hospital. Damage estimates total roughly €350,000, including a 60‑metre section of the guardrail and soil contamination that will require removal.
Traffic was allowed to resume after the wreckage was cleared at around 21:00, ending the prolonged disruption to the regional road network.
