Kocaeli TEM highway crash kills child, injures three
A traffic collision on the TEM highway south of Kocaeli’s Kartepe district resulted in the death of a 7‑year‑old child and injuries to three other family members. The family’s car had broken down and was parked on the emergency lane when a 27‑tonne truck (plate 27 ANA 796) struck it, sending the car tumbling before the truck toppled into a nearby irrigation canal.
Emergency services arrived shortly after the crash at around 02:00 a.m. and confirmed the child’s death on site. The driver, identified as İ. M., his wife G. M., and their other child were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The truck driver was detained for questioning. Police opened an investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
