Serik crash kills driver Burak İpek after car hits electric pole and engine bursts into baraka
In the early hours of a recent night on the D‑400 highway in Serik, Antalya Province, 22‑year‑old driver Burak İpek lost control of his Volkswagen Polo and collided with an electric lighting pole. The impact ripped the vehicle apart and propelled the engine 30‑40 metres into a nearby workers’ baraka, which was fortunately empty at the time. İpek was extricated from the wreck but died at Antalya City Hospital despite intensive medical care.
Days earlier İpek had posted on social media about a previous crash, writing, “Kaza yapmış araba gibiyim; bakıp bakıp iç geçiriyorlar ama hiç kimse ‘Hadi gel şunu toparlayalım’ demiyor.” The fatal crash prompted a police investigation into the cause of the loss of control and the circumstances surrounding the accident.
