Truck driver José Morán receives nine‑month preventive detention after Piura‑Olmos crash
On 21 July, a truck carrying maize collided head‑on with a stationary bus on the Piura‑Olmos highway near the Pajarito fuel station. The driver, José J. Morán A., was accused of driving at an excessive speed, losing control and entering the opposite lane, which caused the death of 42‑year‑old Giomar Silupú Villegas and injured five other passengers.
Judge Pamela Martínez of the Fourth Preparatory Investigation Court in Piura ordered nine months of preventive detention for Morán. Prosecutors José Silva and Janeth Roxana Silva Huertas presented evidence including the victim’s necropsy report, medical‑legal certificates for the injured, a police report, a technical‑police inspection act, and a damage‑assessment report, concluding that the driver’s reckless conduct was the primary cause of the accident. The detention will remain in effect while the investigation continues.
