Piura-Olmos highway fatal traffic accident

Overview

On 21 July, a head-on collision occurred on the Piura-Olmos highway near the Pajarito fuel station when a truck carrying maize struck a stationary bus. The accident, allegedly caused by driver José J. Morán A. driving at excessive speeds and losing control, resulted in the death of 42-year-old Giomar Silupú Villegas and injuries to five other passengers.

Following an investigation involving necropsy reports and police inspections, Judge Pamela Martínez of the Fourth Preparatory Investigation Court in Piura ordered nine months of preventive detention for Morán while legal proceedings continue.
