Truck‑Train Collision Halts Service at Jakule Level Crossing in Czech Republic

On 6 August 2024, a freight truck collided with a passenger train at a level crossing in the Jakule part of Nové Hrady, Czech Republic, shortly after 13:00 local time. The impact caused the truck’s trailer to detach, spilling bottled water in PET containers onto the tracks. No injuries were reported, but around 30 passengers were evacuated from the train by fire‑brigade personnel and transferred to replacement bus services.

The incident prompted the immediate suspension of rail traffic on the Nové Hrady – Jílovice line until further notice. Emergency responders, including professional firefighters from Trhové Sviny and volunteer units, inspected the site and found no hazardous material leaks or fire risk. The cause of the collision is under investigation by the railway authority.

Správa železnic, the Czech railway infrastructure operator, took over the site after the emergency services completed their work, and the railway operator announced that service would remain halted pending safety checks.
