True Fitness and True Yoga abruptly cease operations in Singapore
The fitness chains True Fitness and True Yoga have abruptly ceased operations in Singapore, leading to significant financial losses for consumers and job instability for staff. The parent company, Hong Kong-listed Kontafarma, has declared the business is winding up due to market competition and cost pressures.
The Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) reported receiving 241 complaints by September 11, with unutilised memberships and services totaling more than S$609,000 in losses. Internal accounts indicated that by the end of 2025, customers had paid approximately S$17 million for services yet to be delivered.
In response to the sudden closure, the Singapore Fitness Alliance (SFA) is spearheading an initiative to help affected employees and freelancers find new employment. Working alongside the National Instructors & Coaches Association (NICA) and NTUC’s employment and employability institute (e2i), the SFA is facilitating job matching and training. While these organizations are assisting with placement, the SFA stated it will not be involved in efforts to recover unpaid salaries or commissions.
