Truecaller launches Lite app for budget Android devices in India

Truecaller has released Truecaller Lite in India, a standalone application specifically engineered for Android smartphones with limited storage and up to 4GB of RAM. The app occupies approximately 10MB of storage, making it accessible for entry-level hardware.

While the Lite version utilizes the same underlying database and fraud-detection infrastructure as the standard application, it omits several ancillary features to maintain a small footprint. Features such as in-app messaging, voicemail, Family Protection, and AI-powered assistants are excluded. Core functionalities retained include caller identification, spam and fraud call blocking, an integrated dialer, and after-call identity summaries.

The launch coincides with India’s festive shopping season, a period typically associated with an increase in fraudulent communications, such as fake delivery notifications and KYC-related scams. Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala stated that protection should not depend on the type of phone a user owns.
