U.S. State Department revokes 750+ visas to combat birth tourism
The United States Department of State has established a Birth Tourism Prevention Task Force to combat the practice of foreign nationals traveling to the U.S. specifically to give birth and secure citizenship for their children. This initiative follows an executive order signed by President Donald Trump in early August.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott reported that the task force has already revoked more than 750 visas. This includes 150 revocations in recent days alone. The crackdown targets individuals who misrepresent their travel intentions, such as those claiming to be on short vacations but staying for months to give birth and avoid medical bills.
The task force, led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is working in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security to monitor travel histories and dismantle networks that profit from these schemes. Enforcement measures authorized under the policy include visa revocation, entry refusal, deportation, and permanent bans on re-entering the United States.
