U.S. President Donald Trump welcomed Lebanese President Joseph Aoun to the White House on 21 July 2026. In a Truth Social post, Trump announced that his administration would permit all U.S. airlines to resume direct flights to Lebanon, ending a 40‑year suspension that began after a 1985 hijacking. He described Lebanon as a “mistreated” country and pledged “substantial assistance” to help it rebuild.

During the meeting the two leaders discussed a U.S.–brokered trilateral framework with Israel that calls for a phased Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon and the disarmament of Hezbollah. Trump said he was ready to speak with Hezbollah if Lebanon asked and promised to support the Lebanese Armed Forces taking full control of the south. Aoun expressed “deep gratitude” for U.S. backing and reiterated Lebanon’s goal of permanently ending hostilities with Israel. The announcement was welcomed by Lebanese officials as a boost for travel, the economy, and regional stability.
