Donald Trump suspends Iran attack, cites Hormuz talks FAST-MOVING
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Air Force One that a planned massive attack on Iran had been cancelled and that negotiations would begin Monday afternoon. He said the talks would address the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz – a waterway that carries about 20% of the world’s oil – and the future of Iran’s nuclear programme.
Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei rejected the claim, stating that no direct U.S.–Iran negotiations are under way and that the only diplomatic discussions involve Oman on how to manage safe navigation through the strait. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar publicly urged Trump to hold off the attack.
Following the announcement, international oil prices fell sharply, with Brent crude dropping about 5‑6% to roughly $83 a barrel and U.S. West Texas Intermediate falling around 5‑6% to about $80 a barrel.
