Trump considers FBI investigation into Nolan Wells death

President Donald Trump stated at the White House that the administration is ‘looking at’ potentially requesting an FBI investigation into the death of 18-year-old Nolan Wells. Wells was found dead on Horn Island, Mississippi, after disappearing during a July 4 boat trip.

The request follows a Jackson County grand jury decision to decline indictments, citing a lack of evidence of criminal conduct. While local authorities had not alleged foul play, an independent autopsy commissioned by the Wells family and conducted by Dr. Roger A. Mitchell Jr. found no evidence of drowning. The autopsy instead identified blunt force trauma, including bruising on the back of the head, back, shoulder, and buttocks.

Attorney Ben Crump and the parents of Nolan Wells have called for a transparent federal investigation, citing concerns over accountability and the handling of the case. The death has drawn national scrutiny regarding transparency and disparities in the investigation of cases involving Black victims.
