Trump family accused of secret Alaska oil deal involving Russian investment
Reports indicate the Trump family facilitated a secret deal to allow Russian entities to participate in a natural gas project on Alaska's North Slope. According to The New York Times, the arrangement involved a $25 billion investment from the sanctioned Russian energy giant Novatek into various Trump-linked proxies in exchange for access to the Polar LNG project.
To bypass sanctions, Novatek reportedly used a middleman connected to the United Arab Emirates to hide its financial involvement. The revelation led to a wave of resignations at Polar LNG, including CEO Joel Riddle, who stepped down in September. Riddle stated that allowing Russian technology to control Arctic gas commercialization is “not only unlawful, but it's not in the U.S. interest.”
Following Riddle's departure, much of the company's senior management team also resigned. The project, known as Polar Train, was intended to develop LNG export infrastructure to supply Asian markets and support U.S. energy export ambitions.
