Trump halts diplomatic talks with Iran amid shift in war strategy

President Donald Trump has ordered administration envoys to halt all conversations with Iran, signaling a shift in strategy during the ongoing conflict. According to US officials, the White House is moving away from an immediate military confrontation toward a long-term strategy described as attempting to ‘strangle’ the country over time.

Trump announced via social media that there are currently no talks or scheduled conversations with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He stated that the naval blockade remains in effect and noted that while the Strait of Hormuz is operating and water mines have been addressed, ship traffic remains minimal as vessels continue to face fire from Iranian projectiles.

The decision to pause diplomacy follows unsuccessful attempts to reach a deal and dissatisfaction with Tehran’s willingness to meet US demands. The instruction to cease engagement affects a negotiating team that includes Vice President JD Vance and envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Trump indicated he intends to wait for signals of fresh willingness from Iranian leaders before reengaging in diplomacy.
