Trump Keeps Diplomatic Door Open with Iran as Tensions Rise
White House press secretary Karine Leut said President Donald Trump remains ready to negotiate with Iran while insisting Tehran will be held accountable for violating the recent memorandum that barred Iranian fire on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The United States has carried out airstrikes on dozens of Iranian military targets in response to recent attacks on shipping, warning Iran that any further aggression could expand to other infrastructure.
Leut also noted the release of American citizen Dina Karari from Iran as a goodwill gesture. Pakistan’s foreign ministry, which helped broker a technical‑level dialogue earlier this month, urged all parties to resume talks and end the violence.
