Trump Liberty Line approved to connect Moldova and Romania

The Moldovan government has approved a draft law to declare the Strășeni–Gutinaș 400 kV power line a project of national interest. Named the ‘Trump Liberty Line’ following a proposal from the US Embassy, the project aims to strengthen energy security by connecting Moldova to the Romanian electricity grid.

The project is supported by $130 million in US financing. The line will span approximately 70 kilometers within Moldova, passing through 25 localities across the Strășeni, Călărași, Nisporeni, and Hîncești districts. The new infrastructure is intended to increase Moldova’s capacity to import energy from Romania and provide an additional transport route.

Prime Minister Vasile Tofan noted that the interconnection is critical for addressing energy deficits during peak consumption periods. The project also includes the modernization and expansion of the Strășeni 330 kV electrical station. The power line is expected to be completed by 2032.
