Trump Peace Council receives no funding as promised

The Trump‑initiated Peace Council, announced by former U.S. President Donald Trump, was expected to manage billions of dollars for Gaza reconstruction. Member states pledged roughly $17 billion, including $7 billion from several countries and $10 billion from the United States. Four months after its founding, the council’s JPMorgan account shows a balance of zero dollars, with no money deposited from the promised contributions.

The organization bypasses the World Bank‑administered fund, accepting donations directly into the JPMorgan account, a practice lacking independent transparency requirements. Reported contributions from Morocco amounting to about $20 million have been used only for staff salaries and operational costs, while the United Arab Emirates and a few other members have made limited payments. Bulgaria signed the charter in January but has asserted that its participation carries no financial obligations. U.S. congressional officials are pressing the administration for clarification on the council’s legal status and funding mechanisms.
