Trump Reacts to Alleged Iranian Plot, US-Iran Talks Planned in Switzerland
Israeli intelligence officials told the United States they have new information pointing to an Iranian plan to assassinate President Donald Trump. The Wall Street Journal described the tip as an escalation in the long‑standing U.S.–Iran confrontation, recalling Tehran’s vows of revenge for the killing of General Qassem Soleimani.
Trump said he has already issued “instructions” for an unprecedented response should an attack succeed and dismissed the idea that the threat is new, calling Iran “the number‑one target.” He also affirmed continued coordination with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
At the same time, diplomats anticipate a fresh round of U.S.–Iran negotiations in Switzerland, with Qatar mediators and parallel talks in Muscat on the Hormuz Strait crisis. U.S. officials allege Iran has breached a recent memorandum by repeatedly striking commercial vessels in the Strait, raising doubts about Tehran’s willingness to honor a broader nuclear‑deal framework. The upcoming talks aim to revive the June memorandum of understanding and de‑escalate regional tensions.
