Trump rejects Iran ceasefire proposal, eyes strikes after midterms

U.S. President Donald Trump has rejected a seven-day ceasefire proposal offered by Iran, signaling a potential escalation in the ongoing conflict. The Iranian plan, presented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and mediated by Qatar, proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz on the sixth day and initiating nuclear talks on the seventh. In exchange, Tehran requested the lifting of port blockades, easing of oil sanctions, and the release of frozen assets.

Trump stated at the White House that he is rejecting the deal, arguing that Iran’s motives are driven by military losses and a desire to reopen the waterway. U.S. officials indicate that Trump expects to resume bombing campaigns following the November midterm elections. Washington has also maintained its refusal to lift the current blockade.
