Donald Trump says US will use frozen Iranian assets to buy grain for Iran

President Donald Trump announced that the United States will use a portion of Iran’s frozen assets to purchase wheat, corn and soybeans from American farmers for delivery to Iran, describing the arrangement as “a new market called Iran.” The funds will be placed in an escrow account and used only for humanitarian needs such as food and medical supplies, not transferred directly to the Iranian government. Iran’s foreign ministry responded that any decision on the use of its assets rests with Tehran. Trump also warned that if Iran provides false information, any ongoing negotiations could be terminated immediately. The statements come amid heightened tension over the Hormuz Strait and broader US‑Iran talks.
