US-Iran Conflict Escalates as Trump Threatens Straits of Hormuz After New Airstrikes

The United States has launched a new wave of airstrikes on Iranian military targets, marking the 11th‑12th consecutive night of attacks. CENTCOM says the strikes hit command centres, the navy and air‑force installations to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump, on Truth Social, warned: “From this point forward, any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz … the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT, including those near or in Tehran.” Iran’s Revolutionary Guard responded that “our defense doctrine is clear: an eye for an eye” and warned that U.S. and allied infrastructure would be targeted in retaliation. Multiple maritime incidents were reported: an unknown projectile struck a tanker near Oman, a missile hit Larak Island in the strait, and three oil tankers were turned back after confronting Iranian forces. Iran also detained three tankers attempting to pass the strait. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated U.S. openness to diplomacy but accused Iran of not taking talks seriously, while the dispute over navigation rights in the Hormuz corridor continues to threaten global oil markets.

The fighting has raised oil prices, with Brent crude above $94 a barrel, and has drawn statements from other regional actors, underscoring the broader international ramifications of the escalating US‑Iran confrontation.
