Trump weighs military or economic options against Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump is weighing multiple strategies regarding Iran, including military action, economic isolation, or diplomatic negotiations. Trump stated he is choosing between “wiping Iran out, letting them rot economically or making a deal,” while noting that Tehran “better behave.”

Despite the aggressive rhetoric, Trump indicated he may be open to meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week.

In response to U.S. threats, Iran has warned of retaliation. Hossein Mohebbi, a spokesman for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, stated that if new aggression occurs, Iran will “definitely change the weapons and geography of the war” by using “new weapons with new capabilities.”

The geopolitical situation remains volatile following the expiration of a June 17 memorandum intended to halt fighting in February. Ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to impact global energy prices, and Washington has recently implemented a “crushing economic operation” to isolate the Iranian economy.
