UN Flags Gaza Genocide Risks as Trump‑Backed Board Reports Funding Gap

The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights released a report covering October 2023‑May 2025 that documents widespread violations of international law in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. It says Israeli actions amount to possible war crimes, crimes against humanity and, in some cases, genocide, citing collective punishment, forced displacement, blockades that caused starvation and the destruction of infrastructure. The report records at least 18,683 Palestinian deaths, including 7,347 children, and notes that more than 85 % of Gaza’s population has been displaced.

In parallel, the U.S.‑appointed “Board of Peace” overseeing Donald Trump’s Gaza reconstruction plan told the UN Security Council that a large funding shortfall threatens the effort. Of the $17 billion pledged, only a small portion has been disbursed, leaving a cash gap that hampers rebuilding of the estimated $70 billion‑worth of destroyed homes and infrastructure. The board estimates 85 % of Gaza’s buildings are ruined and 70 million tonnes of rubble must be cleared. It urged swift disbursement and announced plans to ask the Security Council to press Hamas to disarm.

Both the UN findings and the board’s funding concerns highlight an escalating humanitarian crisis, with forced evictions and settlement expansion in the West Bank adding to the dire conditions for Palestinians.
