TSA launches Gateside program for PreCheck members at 13 airports
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has launched 'Gateside by TSA PreCheck,' a pilot program allowing eligible non-travelers to pass through security checkpoints and access airport gates. This initiative revives a practice that was largely discontinued following the September 11 attacks.
To participate, individuals must hold an active TSA PreCheck membership or another qualifying trusted-traveler program with a Known Traveler Number (KTN). Applicants must apply online one to three days in advance. Once approved, visitors can use TSA PreCheck lanes with valid identification. The pass is free and valid for one calendar day, allowing for multiple entries during that period.
The program is currently being rolled out at 13 U.S. airports, including Los Angeles International, Dallas-Fort Worth International, Harry Reid International in Las Vegas, and Salt Lake City International. The TSA intends to evaluate the program for potential expansion to more locations.
Separately, the TSA is considering a potential change that would allow PreCheck passengers to carry full water bottles through security at airports equipped with advanced CT screening technology. This would be a limited rollout and does not replace the existing 3-1-1 liquids rule.
