TSA scales back Gateside PreCheck airport access program

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has suspended the expansion of its ‘Gateside by TSA PreCheck’ program, reverting it to an operational assessment phase at only 13 airports.

The program was designed to allow approved TSA PreCheck members to enter secure airport areas without a boarding pass, enabling them to greet arriving passengers or accompany departing travelers to their gates. While a previous announcement indicated the program would expand to 314 airports, the TSA has scaled back the rollout to the original 13 pilot locations.

The participating airports currently include Los Angeles International (LAX), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Detroit Metropolitan (DTW), Harry Reid International (LAS), San Diego (SAN), Salt Lake City (SLC), Indianapolis (IND), Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower (ICT), Columbus John Glenn (CMH), Mesa Gateway (AZA), Bill and Hillary Clinton (LIT), Will Rogers (OKC), and Eppley (OMA). The agency stated it is evaluating participation levels and operational impacts to ensure security remains strong during this assessment.
