TSE to judge presidential candidate registrations starting Monday
The Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) has scheduled a virtual judgment to review the registration of 13 presidential candidates for the upcoming October elections. The process is set to begin at midnight on Monday, August 31, and will remain open until September 2.
Among the candidates awaiting registration are Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Flávio Bolsonaro, Romeu Zema, and Ronaldo Caiado. The TSE requires all candidates to provide documentation proving their eligibility and the absence of legal or electoral impediments.
A significant focus of the proceedings involves candidate Pablo Marçal. Following a request from the Ministério Público Eleitoral (MPE), the TSE has issued a preliminary injunction temporarily prohibiting Marçal from campaigning, participating in debates, or appearing in radio and television advertising slots. The MPE argues that Marçal is ineligible until 2032 due to a prior conviction in São Paulo involving the exchange of video recordings for donations during the 2024 municipal elections.
