A major fire broke out at the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) compound on the Eastern Main Road in Beetham on the night of Saturday, October 24, 2026. The blaze involved highly combustible insulated copper cables stored at the facility.

Preliminary estimates suggest that copper cable valued at over TT$20 million was destroyed, though formal confirmation is pending. One firefighter sustained superficial burns and smoke inhalation during the incident and was treated at the Port of Spain General Hospital.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has launched an investigation into the incident as suspected arson. Three individuals are currently assisting police with their inquiries. Emergency response efforts involved the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service, the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), and the Ministry of Works and Transport. Following the fire, police conducted operations in Beetham, Laventille, and surrounding areas to secure the vicinity.
