TSTT compound arson in Trinidad and Tobago
Overview
On the night of October 24, 2026, a major fire occurred at the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) compound on the Eastern Main Road in Beetham. The blaze involved highly combustible insulated copper cables, with preliminary estimates suggesting over TT$20 million in damage. One firefighter from the Wrightson Road Fire Station was hospitalized with superficial burns and smoke inhalation.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) launched an investigation into the incident as suspected arson, noting that footage reportedly shows masked individuals setting the premises alight. Three individuals are currently assisting police with inquiries.
In response, the Fire Service Association Second Division has called for the arrest and prosecution of those responsible. The association is urging the government to strengthen legislation to hold arsonists accountable for injuries to first responders and to seek enhanced penalties and compensation for affected emergency personnel.
