Tuanku Muhriz confronts Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar

A video of a confrontation between the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ismail Lasim has surfaced on social media. During the incident, which occurred at a mosque following Friday prayers, Tuanku Muhriz rebuked Ismail, questioning why the Menteri Besar sought an audience after allegedly claiming the ruler was no longer the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.

The confrontation occurs amidst an ongoing constitutional crisis in Negeri Sembilan. The dispute began in April when several traditional chieftains, or undangs, announced the purported removal of Tuanku Muhriz and proclaimed Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar as the new ruler. While the state government under Ismail had previously endorsed the validity of this proclamation, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has since declared the April 19 proclamation appointing Tuanku Nadzaruddin as invalid.

Witnesses described the ruler as visibly incensed, noting it was an unusual display of anger for the monarch. In response to the rebuke, Ismail performed the traditional 'angkat sembah' gesture, while worshippers at the mosque responded with shouts of ‘Daulat Tuanku’.
