Tuanku Muhriz returns to address Negeri Sembilan ruler dispute
Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, has returned to Malaysia from Dubai to address a dispute regarding his status as the state ruler.
The conflict stems from a decision by the Negeri Sembilan executive council (exco) to declare his removal in April as legitimate, naming Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar as the new ruler. This decision was endorsed by Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim, who stated the move was made unanimously and that the state secretary has been instructed to proceed with the official gazetting of the proclamation.
However, the Negeri Sembilan Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) has contested this, asserting that the exco’s decision holds no legal effect and that Tuanku Muhriz remains the rightful Yang di-Pertuan Besar. The DKU maintains it holds the ultimate authority regarding the appointment or removal of the ruler. Upon his arrival at KLIA, Tuanku Muhriz stated he was heading to the palace to resolve the matter through appropriate legal channels.
