Tuanku Muhriz to skip Conference of Rulers to focus on Negeri Sembilan affairs

The Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, will not attend the upcoming Conference of Rulers scheduled for October 13 to 15. Instead, he will focus on state affairs in Negeri Sembilan, specifically the proclamation ceremony of the Undang of Jelebu.

Istana Negeri Sembilan clarified that the monarch did not receive a formal invitation from the Sultan of Perak, who chairs the pre-conference meeting, but noted that a formal invitation is not actually required for attendance. The palace also denied previous media reports claiming that an invitation had been issued.

The decision comes amid an ongoing constitutional crisis in Negeri Sembilan involving the state administration and challenges to the authority of the monarch by certain customary chiefs. The state operates under an elective royal system where the monarch is chosen by the Undang-Undang Luak, the ruling chiefs of the four major customary territories.
