Tucson, Arizona Mass Shooting Injures Nine, Shooter Killed by Police

On the early morning of July 19, a male suspect opened fire on East Congress Street in downtown Tucson, Arizona, wounding nine people, primarily in the extremities. Police officers responding to the scene heard multiple gunshots and confronted the shooter as he ran toward them. A Tucson police officer discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect, who was taken into custody and transported to a hospital in life‑threatening condition. Victims were also taken to local hospitals and are expected to recover.

The shooter was identified in reports as David Leroy French. The incident is being investigated by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the Tucson Police Department, with findings to be reviewed by the Pima County Attorney’s Office. Mayor Regina Romero described the attack as a serious and senseless act of gun violence and praised the rapid response of police and firefighters.
