He now faces nine counts of aggravated assault, and prosecutors noted an earlier felony conviction at age 19. The Pima County Sheriff’s Office and Tucson Police Department continue their investigation, with findings to be reviewed by the Pima County Attorney’s Office.

Mayor Regina Romero condemned the attack, praised the rapid police response, and called attention to Arizona’s weak gun‑safety laws. Both law‑enforcement agencies have launched internal reviews of the incident.
