Tucumán Gov. Jaldo launches $150 M water aqueduct and new waste‑cell

Governor Osvaldo Jaldo led the inauguration of the Nuevo Acueducto de Vipos, a $150 million water‑supply project that will serve more than 245,000 residents in the metropolitan area of San Miguel de Tucumán, including Tapia, Tafí Viejo and Villa Carmela. The 42‑month work, executed by a joint construction consortium, adds a new river intake, a treatment plant and 50 km of trunk pipe to boost capacity and improve water quality.

The governor, together with Mayor Rossana Chahla and Vice‑Governor Miguel Acevedo, also opened cell “L” at the Overo Pozo final‑disposal plant. The 65 m × 65 m cell expands the landfill’s life and allows the facility to handle nearly 70 % of the province’s solid waste, covering over 1.2 million inhabitants. Officials highlighted the project’s role in environmental health, compliance with national standards, and the collaborative effort between municipal, provincial and national authorities.
