Tucumán health officials intensify dengue and chikungunya prevention
Health authorities in Tucumán are intensifying preventive measures against dengue and chikungunya in response to the El Niño phenomenon, which brings higher temperatures and increased rainfall. Public Health Minister Luis Medina Ruiz and the Director General of Environmental Health, Leandro Medina Barrionuevo, met to coordinate strategies to reduce the presence of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Officials noted that while chikungunya cases were recorded through June, prevention and control operations have continued uninterrupted across neighborhoods and cities. Authorities emphasized that the most effective way to reduce contagion risk is to decrease the mosquito population by eliminating breeding sites.
Health officials are calling on the community to participate by spending five to ten minutes per week inspecting homes, yards, and containers that may collect water. The primary recommendation is to empty or flip over any vessels that accumulate water to prevent mosquito reproduction.
