Tucumán health officials reinforce measles prevention measures

The Ministry of Public Health of Tucumán has convened an epidemiological situation room to evaluate health risks following an alert from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) regarding rising measles cases across the Americas.

Health Minister Luis Medina Ruiz expressed concern over outbreaks in Guatemala, Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Peru, noting reports of child fatalities in those regions. Officials highlighted that international air travel serves as a potential vector for disease entry, citing a recent case where a passenger from a flight arriving from Colombia was monitored after contact with a measles-positive individual.

To prevent local outbreaks, authorities are urging citizens to verify their vaccination records. Specifically, individuals born after 1965 are advised to ensure they have received two doses of the vaccine. PAHO reports that 95 percent of the 47,459 confirmed cases in the region are concentrated in Guatemala, Mexico, the United States, and Peru.
