Tuczna water supply contaminated with E. coli bacteria

Sanitary authorities in Poland have issued a warning after Escherichia coli and other coliform bacteria were detected in the water supply in Tuczna, Lubelskie Voivodeship. The contamination affects approximately 1,400 residents across four villages: Tuczna, Dąbrowica Duża, Choroszczynka, and Bokinka Królewska.

The water is deemed unfit for human consumption, food preparation, washing fruits and vegetables, or making ice. Authorities have also advised against using the water for personal hygiene, laundry, or cleaning. Currently, the water may only be used for flushing toilets.

Special precautions are advised for newborns, young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. Local authorities are providing bottled water through various distribution points, including village community centers and the 'Wspólna Chata' Social Cooperative. The contaminated water source is undergoing disinfection, and the situation is being monitored by the District Sanitary-Epidemiological Station in Biała Podlaska.
