Tufan Erçurman calls for Turkey's inclusion in Cyprus 5+1 talks

Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erçurman stated that ground is being laid for the renegotiation of the Cyprus issue. He emphasized that a 5+1 meeting cannot be convened without the participation of Turkey.

Erçurman characterized the recent visit of UN Secretary-General António Guterres as successful, noting that Guterres arrived with a serious team and requested the convening of the 5+1 meeting based on Confidence Building Measures (CBMs), methodology, and substance. Erçurman expressed a desire for result-oriented negotiations rather than mere discussion.

Regarding domestic relations, Erçurman mentioned his meeting with President Nicos Christodoulides, noting that following Guterres' visit, he requested weekly meetings, though no specific agenda has been set. He accused President Christodoulides of obstructing agreements by introducing different points of contention than those previously agreed upon in New York. Furthermore, Erçurman criticized the President's handling of issues such as drug enforcement and property seizure arrests, alleging that the law is being used as a political tool.
