Tufan Erçurman expresses readiness for UN-led Cyprus negotiations
Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erçurman has expressed readiness to reach an agreement on six of the seven key points identified by UN Secretary-General António Guterres to facilitate a 5+1 meeting.
The areas identified for progress include de-mining, sports, joint disaster management mechanisms, and the creation of common mechanisms regarding irregular migration. Erçurman also noted readiness to discuss transit points, despite existing complexities.
Regarding the rights of children born from mixed marriages to obtain EU citizenship, Erçurman characterized this as a human rights issue rather than a confidence-building measure. Additionally, he stated that the Turkish Cypriot side is prepared to provide assistance to southern Cyprus in the event of any natural disaster.
