Tulcea County residents issued multiple RO-Alerts following aerial target detections

Authorities in Tulcea County, Romania, have issued multiple RO-Alert warnings following the detection of aerial targets near the border. The alerts, which advised residents to seek shelter in basements or stay away from windows due to the risk of falling objects, occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Wednesday, an aerial target was detected approximately 8 km north of Vâlcove, Ukraine. In response, the Romanian Air Forces deployed an IAR-330 PUMA SOCAT helicopter to monitor the situation. The Ministry of National Defence confirmed that no incursions into Romanian airspace were reported, and the alert was lifted around midnight.

In a related incident, a drone was discovered in a walnut tree near a residence in Vrancea County. In light of these recurring threats, Senator Nicoleta Pauliuc, chair of the Senate Defense Committee, has called for a hearing involving the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), and other maritime and security agencies to develop solutions for the early detection of maritime and aerial drones.
