Tumbler Ridge shooting documents reveal investigator confusion FAST-MOVING

Newly released court documents provide new details regarding the February mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge. The records, obtained by a media consortium, reveal that investigators faced significant confusion regarding the number of shooters involved during the incident.

The documents state that the suspect, Jesse Van Rootselaar, had mental health issues and a fascination with firearms. Van Rootselaar died from a self-inflicted wound. The shooting resulted in the deaths of eight people, including six children and two adults. Among the victims were Van Rootselaar’s mother, Jennifer Jacobs, and his brother, Emmett Jacobs.

Prior to the active shooter report, the RCMP had received a complaint regarding a Hyundai Palisade being driven erratically near the suspect's family home. The vehicle, registered to Van Rootselaar’s mother, was reported to have rear damage after striking a snowbank.
