Tuncer Bakırhan Calls for Framework Law to Advance Turkish Democracy
At a DEM Party parliamentary group meeting, co‑chair Tuncer Bakırhan urged the Turkish Grand National Assembly to adopt a "framework law," describing it as the first step to move the country's historic threshold from conflict to rule of law and to strengthen democratic governance.
Bakırhan linked the proposal to the anniversary of the 2014 Yazidi genocide, argued that a strong democratic foundation is essential for peace in Turkey and the broader Middle East, and called for collective action to turn the law into a "new era of democratic partnership." He noted that while the law will not resolve century‑long issues overnight, it can replace violence with dialogue and expand democratic participation.
