Tung Chee-hwa funeral arrangements announced in Hong Kong

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Tung Chee-hwa, the first Chief Executive of Hong Kong, who passed away on September 8 at the age of 89.

A wake will be held at the Hong Kong Funeral Home on September 19 from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, followed by a public memorial ceremony on September 20 at 9:00 AM. The funeral will follow the protocols of a national leader, with the coffin being covered by the national flag.

The funeral committee is led by Shi Taifeng, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Organization Department. Vice-chairmen include former Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying, Wang Dongfeng, Xia Baolong, and current Chief Executive John Lee. The high-level organization of the ceremony is noted as being of a higher rank than previous state-level funerals for Hong Kong figures.
