Tunisia and Libya discuss easing border crossing restrictions

Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed held a telephone discussion with Mohamed El-Menfi, President of the Libyan Presidential Council, to address bilateral relations and shared regional challenges. A primary focus of the conversation was the need to intensify consultations to remove obstacles at border crossings, facilitating the smoother movement of people and goods between the two nations.

Improving border efficiency is particularly critical for southern Tunisia, where cross-border trade is a vital economic driver. This follows recent local protests in Ben Guerdane regarding economic difficulties and trade restrictions at the Ras Jedir crossing.

Additionally, President Saïed reaffirmed Tunisia’s support for Libyan unity, stating that any political solution must be ‘libyo-libyenne’ (Libyan-led) and expressing confidence in the Libyan people's ability to achieve stability and prosperity.
