Overview
Tunisia is working to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with its neighbors, Libya and Egypt.
In discussions between Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed and Libyan Presidential Council President Mohamed El-Menfi, both leaders focused on removing obstacles at border crossings to facilitate the movement of people and goods. This effort aims to stimulate bilateral trade and address economic challenges, particularly in southern Tunisia where cross-border trade is a vital driver. President Saïed also reaffirmed support for a ‘libyo-libyenne’ (Libyan-led) political solution to ensure stability.
Simultaneously, Tunisia has expanded its regional engagement through meetings in Cairo. Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti and Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty committed to increasing trade volumes and exploring joint investment opportunities. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation and its Egyptian equivalent to establish a South-South cooperation framework for Arab and African nations.
