Tunisia heatwave causes extreme temperatures and power outages

Tunisia is experiencing a massive heatwave that has pushed the national power grid to its limits. Temperatures on the island of Djerba have reached as high as 46 degrees Celsius, with nighttime temperatures remaining above 30 degrees Celsius. High humidity levels, reaching up to 78 percent, have further intensified the heat.

The extreme weather has led to frequent, unannounced power outages across many parts of the country, often lasting several hours. In some regions, water supplies have also been interrupted. These utility failures have prevented the use of air conditioning during the hottest periods, causing significant physical exhaustion and distress for residents and visitors.
