Tunisia implements measures to support olive oil sector

Following a meeting with President Kaïs Saïed, the Tunisian government has adopted a series of measures to support the olive oil industry and small-scale farmers. The initiative includes mobilizing 150 million dinars through public and private banks to enable the National Oil Office (ONH) to purchase national production and regulate the market.

Small farmers will receive 20 million dinars in preferential credits via the Tunisian Solidarity Bank (BTS) and will be prioritized for subsidies to acquire mechanical harvesting equipment. Additionally, the 2027 finance bill includes a 100 million dinar funding line for 2027–2030 to provide seasonal and investment credits at preferential rates.

During discussions at the Carthage Palace, President Saïed also addressed difficulties in the date production sector, criticizing intermediaries for deliberately lowering purchase prices. He called for urgent intervention across various agricultural sectors to protect producers and promote Tunisian olive oil on global markets.
