Tunisian olive oil sector financial support

Overview

The Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) initiated efforts to support the olive oil industry by urging financial institutions to increase funding for the 2026-2027 harvest season. The BCT emphasized the necessity of mobilizing liquidity to cover the entire production chain, from harvesting and pressing to storage and exportation.

Following these calls, the Tunisian government, under President Kaïs Saïed, adopted specific measures to assist the sector and small-scale farmers. This includes mobilizing 150 million dinars through public and private banks to allow the National Oil Office (ONH) to purchase national production and regulate the market.

Further support includes 20 million dinars in preferential credits for small farmers via the Tunisian Solidarity Bank (BTS), with priority given to those acquiring mechanical harvesting equipment. Additionally, the 2027 finance bill includes a 100 million dinar funding line for the 2027–2030 period to provide seasonal and investment credits at preferential rates.
