Tunisia receives EBRD business funding and EU wildfire aid

Tunisia is receiving significant international support addressing both economic development and emergency humanitarian needs.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has expanded its risk-sharing mechanism with Attijari Bank Tunisie from 20 million to 70 million euros to bolster private sector investment. Additionally, a new 10 million dollar fund has been established to support Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. This fund targets projects such as renewable energy, waste reduction, and gender equality. Eligible companies may also receive grants funded by the United Kingdom through the High-Impact Partnership on Climate Action (HIPCA).

Separately, the European Union has pledged 200,000 euros in emergency humanitarian aid to assist populations affected by wildfires across Tunisia. The funds will support the Tunisian Red Crescent and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in providing shelter, food, and sanitation to approximately 15,000 people. The fires have damaged roughly 12,000 hectares of forest and agricultural land, impacting over 41,000 people through direct damage or disruptions to water and electricity supplies.
