Tunisia reports near‑doubling of baccalaureate exam fraud cases in 2026

The Tunisian Ministry of Education recorded 955 instances of fraud during the main 2026 baccalaureate session, up from 508 the previous year. Officials said the rise occurred despite reinforced control measures and emphasized that the goal is to protect candidates and preserve exam fairness rather than to punish students.

Ministerial spokesperson Mohamed Mili noted that roughly 162,435 candidates sat the exams, with about 156,000 personnel—including more than 20,600 teachers and instructors—mobilised to ensure the process runs smoothly. The results are expected on 23 June. Legal provisions will be applied to any confirmed violations.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to equality of opportunity, urging a distinction between safeguarding honest candidates and enforcing existing anti‑fraud legislation.
